In 2008, Far Eastern National University was nominated by the Russian President and Federal Government for the status of one of the first five federal universities, to receive exceptional federal support for all-dimensional development. By 2012 the FENU main campus is planned to become the best new university campus in Russia. The core target of this national project is fostering integration of Russian Far East into Pacific Rim education, research, and high tech development.
Implementation of this project will be the second most important event in the FENU history since its establishment in 1899.

FENU Russian School for International Students has opened preparatory courses for foreign citizens who plan to enter and study at Russian medical universities, FENU Academy of Ecology, Marine Biology and Biotechnology, Institute of Chemistry and Applied Ecology, Institute of Physics and Information Technologies and the related universities' divisions of Russia. The period of study is 9 months.
Teachers of the Russian language and basics of computer science, specialists in biology, chemistry and physics run this program.
Skills obtained on these courses correspond with the First Qualification Level of the State Test in Russian as a Foreign Language for foreign citizens.
